@sabandijo @amiserabilist p-bass had a tug bar below the strings because originally it was thought that players of the electric bass guitar would use their thumbs. @Bearfaced @amiserabilist oh! Thanks! I had no idea. It just feels weird to me π. I use to place my thumb on the pickups, but I learned with an electric Jazz bass. (And I am not very knowledgeable). @sabandijo @amiserabilist Me too, as an upright bass tends to be fingered I would have assumed the electric 'horizontal' bass would have been designed to be played the same way. It was only after I heard someone say it was originally designed to be played with the thumb that I wondered about it and did a little digging. I'm not sure it was designed that way but it was expected to be played with the thumb. π I'm currently checking info on it π It's so amusing. I'll try to play mine like that to see how it feels. PD: by looking for info I realized I still don't have a P bass and have been checking them out π I hope I can resist buying one. @sabandijo @amiserabilist the original Tears for Fears version is a very upbeat sound with devastating lyrics. I find it fascinating that they're doing the Gary Jules cover (though it IS much more suited to acoustic, and is more widely known these days.) @philbetts @amiserabilist indeed, it is the first one that comes to my mind π (almost the only one). @stippel66 @amiserabilist Moest meteen aan deze 8 jaar oude versie denken: @amiserabilist @stippel66 Ze hebben leuke arrangementen en moet altijd glimlachen om de vaste camerapositie. Deze vind ik erg leuk: I grew up in the 80's with 'The Hurting' being one of my favourite albums, I'd go to school with it on my walkman, along with Yazoo, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode and others. mad World is in my top 10 all time fave songs, and this version is wonderful. @amiserabilist Parenting goal. I need to teach my daughter some guitar. And to write an internationally acclaimed and many times covered song. @amiserabilist @amiserabilist @amiserabilist Something I love to do with my daughter! I already have two daughters and one guitar. Now we only have to learn to play the guitar and how to sing. @amiserabilist her voice is beautifully paired with his! I always loved his cameo appearances on Psychβheβs got a great sense of humor! @amiserabilist This randomly reminded me of the cover by The Good Natured (which unfortunately went nowhere as a band back then), though I wish there was a version with the keyboard mixed down: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RaHlLela4vs @amiserabilist @amiserabilist They are singing it the slow way Gary Jules sang it rather than the faster synthy way Tears for Fears did it. @amiserabilist Gorgeous, and that last little bit was epic! That's when you know she's ready! @amiserabilist every single time I hear this song, I think of the very first Gears of War Xbox trailer that used the song. It was so good it was ingrained into my brain permanently. Brb, now I gotta go re-watch that old trailer! @amiserabilist I loved these guys when I was growing up, and even got to see them once. This is so heartwarming to see. @amiserabilist |

Lovely.
Somehow I feel he sounds a bit too upbeat (well, if I were playing with any of my children I would be happy too).
I loved how they sounded when she was doing chorus, their voices matched perfectly.
As a bass player I find very weird that tendency (many guitar players have) to use the thumb to play while using the fingers to lock the hand (instead of the oppossite, it can be on purpose, to make it sound even softer).
