 @MageInBlack @ThePlant If every software choice becomes a political statement then all software will eventually become unpalatable. You get that, right? Also I would MUCH rather use Brave than rely on Firefox who relies almost exclusively on Google for funding. But hey I'm sure their recent decision to dive headfirst into ad-tech won't go terribly wrong, right? Never mind their previous missteps in this area. 9 comments
@JayLittle @ThePlant Everything you do is a political statement in a sense. There is no exceptions. There are just things that are usually agreed upon so this doesn't come up. Being political has become toxic while people don't understand how politics are everywhere. Even in your choice of software. At this point you decide whenever you choose to ignore the consequences or have more comfort not worrying about it @MageInBlack @ThePlant So if I use Firefox am I then not making a political statement demonstrating my support for a foundation and business that literally is incapable of supporting itself? Keep in mind that the only thing keeping the Mozilla Foundation afloat is their willingness to sell their users out to Google in exchange for hundreds of millions of dollars in funding a year. Out of the box, Mozilla has already made the decision to screw us all over. @JayLittle @ThePlant you do, in fact, make a political statement with your choice. It is your choice to weight the consequences of what you do. I'd rather use zen on pc and firefox on mobile than brave. I am not exactly happy with the choice but i have little alternatives. Gnome web? Idk what else i may look into that @JayLittle @MageInBlack ah yes, of course the business supporting itself is more important than their values and what they ship, classic right libertarian take @outfrost @MageInBlack It's not a libertarian take to acknowledge that Mozilla is nearly 100% funded by one of the worst corporations in tech, Google. If you think its inappropriate to acknowledge the fact that Google's money is tainted and that Mozilla's acceptance of it involves them doing things to Firefox that are not in the best interests of their end users, then you are being delusional. Without money Mozilla cannot operate. Without Mozilla, Firefox cannot exist. These are facts. @JayLittle @MageInBlack Oh sure I don't like how Mozilla is funded, but that is not the argument I responded to, and you're mischaracterising what I said. If you don't wanna identify with something, don't make yourself look like it. Anyway I'd rather deal with a company that has a marketing deal with Google than Google itself or an equivalently shitty thing like Brave. Also citation needed on that last part. @JayLittle @MageInBlack Yeah, software choices _are_ political, and yeah, a _lot_ of software is not-exactly-ethical. You can be unaware of issues, there's nothing wrong with that, and you can also continue using a product knowing its and the company's negative impacts. But you're getting weirdly defensive about your allegiance to brave. |

@MageInBlack @ThePlant Zen Browser isn't too far off and is my runner up choice at the moment. My biggest problem with Zen is that there is no mobile / iOS option that allows me to block ads and still have a decent browser experience with syncing. Firefox Focus is a sad joke and actual Firefox on iOS is also not up to par.
Right now with Brave I can get super reliable syncing and great support across every OS along with top tier ad-blocking.
