Steam now allows to add Mastodon links to game pages, if you are in one of the following instances 😮 🤯

Workaround for other instances: setting "https: // mastodon.gamedev.place/" + your user, for example "@ eibriel @ sigmoid.social" (without the spaces)

@eibriel This maybe sound off-topic but I'd personally want companies like #Patreon & Buy Me A Coffee doing the same too. Linktree did at least. But Mastodon should be recognized more. So many creative types are NOT on Twitter anymore.

@eibriel i feel like it's a bit silly to link it to just those handful of instances. the whole point is it's decentralized to a fault, just allow https://./@* ? but, ah well.

They argue that they can't add all instances in existence. But they are not suppose to limit the URL in the first place.

@siosm @eibriel The only argument to limit them is if they want to avoid external links to untrusted sources, but since you are allowed to add your custom website url just a few pixels above the social links, this makes no sense either.

This is not a good reason. It is trivial to check whether something is a Mastodon/ActivityPub actor URL on the backend
