On Linux we just roll our own:
`sudo find / -type d -exec touch \{\}/.DS_Store \;` should set you up nicely.

.DS_Store will be popping up in the middle of random buildings and streets despite what anyone wants and will never contain anything you need.

every now and then someone will demolish one and it'll just be rebuilt the next day.
