@chad My partner and I have both a Tesla 3 and an Ioniq 5. I like them both, for different reasons.

The Ioniq is more practical, but the 3 is more maneuverable and responsive. The Tesla software is mostly better, esp the self-driving features. But I like the dedicated instrument panel and many other features of the Ioniq 5.

You should test drive both.

@brent thanks. Have you towed with either? We have a 1200lb tent trailer that we need to make sure we can still bring along.

@chad No, sorry, no tow hitches. I don't own a trailer. I would guess the Ioniq is far better for towing than our single-motor 3, but maybe a dual motor Y would be comparable?

@brent Thanks. Dollar to dollar, comparing the two vehicles as equipped, I think we're going with the Ioniq 5.

@chad Question is whether you can find the one you want, or have to wait a long time. I got lucky and local dealer had the exact colour/package I wanted on the lot. Some people have to wait a year.

@brent there's an Ioniq 5 that fits the bill at a dealer I am willing to do business with.

(ie, not part of Auto Canada or Go Auto)

@chad @brent Driving an KIA EV6 (the nicer sister to the Ioniq 5) since a year ago, currently on the road for vacation and hauling a 1600 kg Caravan thru the alps. No problem, but “only” 250 km range with this combination.

@chad @brent Charging from 20% to 80% in 18 Minutes, usually the car is faster then my necessary break.

@chad Also, the Ioniq still uses a fob. The tesla phone key is so much better. Transparent locking and unlocking of the car. Also sentry mode.

@brent I'm not so concerned about access. I'm more concerned about if it can do what we need it to. Specifically if we can town a tent trailer 200-300km.

We also need that hitch to be able to bring our bikes with us when we vacation. Critically when we got to Victoria in February.

@chad For that kind of stuff the Ioniq 5 is clearly superior. Much better for long distance driving, as long as you have chargers en route. We drove the 3 from Niagara to Sault Ste. Marie and back, charging was no problem, but I think the Ioniq would have been more comfy.
