@marius @alexadeswift I gave up recommending operating systems to others. I just enjoy my ArchLinux and keep to myself.

@codeofamor @marius I enjoy my LMDE laptop too, which is a bit unusual in being a 2017 MacBook Air πŸ’»

@alexadeswift @marius My Arch Lappy (1/4 of my Arch devices) is a 2013 MacBook Pro πŸ˜‰πŸ‘πŸ»

@codeofamor @marius Great way to give new life to old but otherwise perfectly serviceable devices 😁

@alexadeswift @marius Exactly. Old by BLOATED software standards. Works great for reasonable experts.

@codeofamor @marius after my batteries completely people were telling me to throw it away and by β€žsomething newer and betterβ€œ! I have since replaced the battery, put new shells on the outside to smarten it up, installed a privacy screen on it, installed the latest LMDE (it can’t even run the latest MacOS) and added a 512Gb microSD and another 512Gb USB SSD drive.

Why spend over a thousand Euro when the above probably only came to a couple of hundred over months?

@alexadeswift @marius Exactly. The keyboard went bad on the MacBook by only two keys but impossible to repair even with my array of tools (I dismantled it down to the rivets). So I found a replacement second hand and replaced that part. Works better than ever. Have replaced the battery also. I must admit I currently use the even weaker HP more often because it boots fast and I usually keep it in the virtual terminal. And it has days of battery life! Can't compile for shit though. Meh. I spend most my time in SSH or scripting in helix.

@alexadeswift @marius I'm ALL about upcycling, reuse, and good custodianship of the resources around me.

@alexadeswift @marius Actually, I was surprised at how well this super basic HP cheap chromebook-esque thing runs Hyprland. Just don't try to open a web browser and it's great! 😊

@alexadeswift @marius At this point I'm just pulling the DOOM question on everything I can. "Can it run Arch? Let's see...."
