With the PS5 Pro announcement, I think it's even more apparent that Valve should really bring back the Steam Machine. This is an older article, but just as relevant now:

@steamdeckhq My PS5 has been sitting there gathering dust since I got my steamdeck dock. I don't usually play AAA titles or shooters, so maybe I'm not the most attractive demographic, but a Steam Machine would absolutely get more use in my house than a new Playstation or XBox.

It surprised me that I like it on my TV so much, to be completely honest, so there may be a marketing challenge. Having been primarily a console gamer for the last 20-25 years I had assumed that most PC gaming was mouse & keyboard-centric like it was when I stopped PC gaming.

I use my DualShock 3's and 4's which work pretty well with it, but I would try out a Steam controller if they released one.

@steamdeckhq
not just the steam machine but also the steam controller... It was the best controller on the market and mine finally died last year... I need a new one ^^

@steamdeckhq Very good article. I agree that Valve should make a Steam Machine. The OS is ready, in terms of features.

In my opinion, they should make it a high end one too. Steam Deck + Dock is going to be better than any possible low end Steam Machine, so they shouldn’t make a model that would compete with that option.

The Steam Machine should at 750€ or so (about 50-100 more than the top Steam Deck SKU) and it should do the suspend / resume behaviour the Steam Deck and consoles all do.

I’d love the Steam Machine to be a big beefy box that’ll actually game at 4k 60fps.
