This is a proposal to expand the tried tl;dr standard for further usecases.

The authors propose

pw;dr - paywall; didn't read
ai;dr - ai, didn't read

This is a draft.

@holothuroid I saw an alternative.

pw;cr - Paywall; couldn't read

rfg

@holothuroid Wow, everyone in the replies is willing to share so many things that aren't worth reading! You shitposters! 😒

@holothuroid

„ai“ might be to specific for some use cases,;
how about manually manipulated images?
The symbol for this is an M in square brackets. [M]

@holothuroid There’s the already established (well, at least by me…) tv;dw - too video, didn’t watch.

synlogic

@holothuroid

nrm;dr - no reader mode

rc;dr - requires cookies

Gorobar

@holothuroid great idea, although I mostly prefer it if people post archive links for the paywalled stuff.

There should also be one for the commercial manipulation platforms (Xitter and the metastases, mainly)

ab;dr griped about my ad blocker, didn't read

While these are all great fun, it ignores how it is used:
tl;dr: <summary>
So, if it were ai-text, it would be more like:
ai;dr: misinformation.
rather than providing a summary. And if it were paywalled, you can't provide a summary, so what's the point at all?

youre gonna get hit with a paywall on a site and make an account on it just to comment that you dont want to use the site?

cassiozen

@holothuroid Dr;ais - did read, but as summarized by ai. Could be correct or hallucinated….

@holothuroid TL;DR is often accompanied by a short summary, so that those who didn’t read can get the gist of what the text says. Posting tl;dr as a way of telling off the author for writing a text too long for you to bother reading it is just rude and ignorant.

If the reason for posting pw;dr and ai;dr is to tell off the author, then one is simply showing one is a rude person more concerned with signalling virtue than engaging as an empathetic human being.

The only way to deal with posts that you can’t/won’t read for whatever reason is to move on. Quietly.

vo;dw — video only, didn't watch
po;dl — podcast only, didn't listen

If we're adding to the lexicon, then I propose:

js;dr

Javascrippled; Didn't Read

Too many websites are Javascript dependent when Plain Ol' Semantic HTML would have worked, and it seems web developers have forgotten about graceful degradation, or even progessive enhancement.

Javascript is something up with which I will not put.

cb:dr click bait, didn't read
cf:dr click farm, didn't read
daf:dr dumb as f+ck, funny read

@holothuroid
There's also cw;dr for "cookiewall, didn't read". Although I'm curious if those are a thing mostly enjoyed by people in EU GDPR countries, or does everone see those, even in the land of the free?

Steve Lord

@holothuroid can I also propose:

ac;dc - advertorial content; don't care

Tim Ward ⭐🇪🇺🔶 #FBPE

@holothuroid Plus "it took more than one click to reject all cookies"

AspiringLuddite

@holothuroid

ai;fro - ai; fucked right off
pw;cba - paywall; couldn't be arsed

Kahia

@holothuroid May I also asked,

nat;dr

no alt-text, didn't read

meduz'

@holothuroid dr;dr - draft; didn’t read

(Love both proposals 👍.)

Cley Faye

@holothuroid that could be an interesting RFC for april 1st.

Mark Whybird

@holothuroid esl;ra - English as a Second Language; read anyway.

For when the #grammar may be poor, possibly due to #English not being their first #language, but you should put in the effort to interpret what they are saying and read it anyway,

(Much respect to all who, unlike me, speak/write more than one language. If you are reading this, your English is certainly better than my <insert any other human language you speak here>.)

This is the closest I've seen to a viral post on Mastodon :))

The paywall didn't read line applies to so much ...

holothuroid

@RobertJackson58585858 I was quite surprised about that. Best thing I found some people that I knew on birdside before.

@holothuroid

pw;dr is actually bp;dr = behind paywall didn't read and quite old.
Sorryyyy 😆

mirabilos

@holothuroid bp;dr (behind paywall; didn’t read) has been in use for a couple of years, so in the interest of standardisation…
