Kamala Harris’ plan to raise taxes on billionaires is not radical.
What’s radical is accepting a system where billionaires pay lower effective tax rates than nurses, teachers, and truck drivers.

I'm no longer worried about what billionaires will do if we piss them off. They are already doing it. @Professor_Stevens @rbreich me neither, but everyone will need to be prepared for shit to come and why What else have they got left to add to what they're already doing? It's like when Dems want to use negative campaign material, or go on "attack," and get cold feet because they don't want to make the Republicans mad. Republicans are mad all the time. There is no "make them mad." Same with the rich. We shouldn't fear provoking them into screwing us. They're screwing us now, as much as they can. @rbreich @Professor_Stevens because they will project blame on immigrants, queers, trans, palestinians or whatever when people are left in ignorance of how shit works @Kierkegaanks @rbreich They're working with $x amount of money to destroy the world already. If you take away their money - ideally all of it, not just a tiny slice - then they'll only have $y which is much less than $x, and we'll have less trouble from them, not more. Lower costs, too. Everything is cheaper when you do it in bulk. Low-income Americans pay fees just to have bank accounts. If they can afford to be in the stock market, they pay a higher percentage of transactions as brokerage costs. If they get paid by the hour, waiting for their appointment in the doctor's office adds to the cost of the visit. Being rich doesn't just mean you have money. It means everything costs you less than if you're not rich. @Professor_Stevens @rbreich I don't know how anyone, when they see and realize this, doesn't see how we don't have a backwards system. The cruelty is the point. @rbreich Well remember that some people will not give you back the money they own you if you just say "please". @rbreich the amount she plans to raise taxes on the rich is what needs to be radical. not a few timid percent, but mid double digits. And soon. The majority needs relief. Now. @rbreich @TheEmpororHasNoClothes @rbreich Fuck it, you're right.. I'm voting for trump now. You have convinced me. Or maybe better still I just won't vote at all.. then I can eat popcorn in November while I watch Trump contest the vote count, knowing I haven't got a dog in this fight. @felis_catus_domesticus That's the kind of lazy response i'd expect from lazy people who want to believe you can vote your way out of an oligarchy. It hurts your brain too much to figure out how to divorce yourself from your corporate masters. In the meantime, save your popcorn for the shitshow that your braindead Democrats have in store, now they've started WW3 with Russia. Yes @rbreich Also a lot less radical than Eisenhower. It's only considered radical because we moved the Overton window so far to the right. @rbreich I think it's cute that there are people who actually think Harris really wants to raise taxes on billionaires. It's even cuter that those same people actually think that if she's elected, she will actually continue talking about this. She, like every other Democrat and Republican, is a corporate politician that will only take care of those corporate donors. @rbreich Hell its radical that we live in a profit driven society that encourages the kind of exploitation necessary for billionaires to exist at all. @rbreich It's sad that we're excited for a 28% tax rate, when before they had to pay 35% taxes. And we're upset about it having gone from that to 21% while neglecting that the era in which MAGA considers to be the "Great" era, was anywhere between 70% and 92% tax rate for the most wealthy Americans. But no, they only care about the "before civil rights" part, and not the "before Reaganomics" part. @rbreich I think, Finally! Kamala will force the Nations finances Truly RIGHT again! (correct) Instead of saying "raise taxes on the wealthy" ... it might be more enlightening to say "reduce the tax breaks given to the wealthy" so they pay the same rates as everyone else. @rbreich It’s not, “raising taxes,” if they simply being put back where the belong; circa 1964. BRAVO! That's it in a nutshell. Now it's up to the Electoral College to decide who will be president because I have no doubt that a large majority of voters want to tax the rich. Pretty strange "Democracy". If the Dems sweep all branches of government they must institute significant democratic reform. MAGA is anti-democratic at its core. It is a fundamental rejection of our founding myth: majority rule, minority rights. This election decides if majority rule is possible. |
@rbreich it will bring out a more radical behavior among billionaires though. Their fault through and through, but we’ll all get to suffer
