Whoa, I just got whiplash from traveling from the 1970s to the 2010s and back again. 😄

@atax1a I feel like the entire C language is built on a foundation of lies.

Scope creep is a real and terrible thing.

@atax1a This is actually a misconception! printf is actually short for printfox, referring to the tiny fox :neofox: in memory that prepares your string before printing it for you

@Extelec
I used printf to diagnose a problem I had last Christmas, but it was only able to print the letters abcdefghijkmnopqrstuvwxyz

@rc2014 @Extelec ah yes there is a date-dependent noël bug in some configurations

Press F to pay respects to all the printing it has to do ;)

@atax1a they call it print and it doesn’t even print to my laser printer

@atax1a One might even come to the misled conclusion, it was actually short for printIf (just like elseif (#PHP) and even elsif (#Ruby), not to mention elif (#Python) as a shorthand for else if)

@atax1a@infosec.exchange Now you tell me! Written a while library of functions for the other letters!

Colin

@atax1a If you look really closely it's actually composing the other letters and symbols out of tiny "f"s. Very few people examine their letters closely which is how they get away with this.
