twelve years ago, a painter by the name of anders ramsell painted 12,597 aquarelle paintings of blade runner, shot by shot, of the entire film edited down to ~35 minutes. it took two years of painstaking work, all done in his spare time after work each night.

the video circled around the web for a few years, and quietly disappeared from every single site it was hosted at.

a few months ago i spent a few hours digging for it, and finally found a copy of the original file.

i'm not sure how long it will last over at IA, so enjoy it while you can. it is a true achievement. 🙏

@vga256 As much as I love Archive.org this is the type of threatened file for which personal data hoarding was invented. Your curatorial work is appreciated!

(Yes, I consider deep-rummaging the internet to find an almost-lost file, and then publicizing its availability, to be the very quintessence of curation.)

@vga256 this is one of the big reasons I love the Internet Archive (and all contributors :blobfoxheartcute: ). They host random stuff like this, when nobody else does.

@vga256

damn. Awesome and why people like yourself, really, any of us who care about some end of the universe, and internet archive matter.

Library of Congress is another precious resource for archival data too.

@vga256 Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies of all time and this is amazing! Thank you for the effort you put into finding it!

@vga256 artists are so strange, but I appreciate them all because every once in a while someone does something that no normal, rational person would do and it’s absolutely amazing. This fits into that category completely. Thank you for sharing.

@vga256 A beautiful thing, so well observed, so well captured.

Cool.

Downloaded and archived offline.

Hit me up if you ever can't find it online.

@vga256 I can see why it got taken down. If they had recorded their own soundtrack they might have skirted the edge of destruction.

It wouldn't have made much sense if we weren't familiar with the original movie. But we're glad to have seen it.

@vga256 Wow! This is incredible! If Anders finds this thread: you are incredible!! Thanks for bringing new art and new ideas into this world. We see you!

Placeholder here.

@vga256 I had forgotten how beautiful it is. Thank you so much for reminding me of the existence of this work of art.

Space Hobo Actual

@vga256 There are scenes from other films interspersed in this, including some that people have identified from Passion of the Christ. It's far more than simple rotoscoping.
