i know, the jokes but like, i will DIE on the hill that GNU Image or Glimpse or whatever would have eaten a MASSIVELY HUGE CHUNK of Adobe Photoshop's lunch many years ago if the powers around it grew the hell up and changed the name I always hear the "git" counter, but nah for many reasons "git" isn't as known to be slurrish, and version control is more "insider" Tech OUTSIDERS, artists and teachers and kids etc -- were the ostensible target here. And I, as a sort of ambassador type, can't be here trying to say "I know it's called GIMP but trust me its good and your middle schoolers can use it" to e.g. teachers nice try though @jrm4 @mathew I think the name was the least of Gimps problems. Especially considering there are many countries which do not speak English and where no one even knows what a gimp is. Here in Germany it was a hard sell to get people to use Gimp over photoshop because for a very long time the interface was too weird for the artist. No one ever even mentioned the name. Because no one knew what it meant. But they knew the UI was too different. Seconded. Also IMP would be just fine too. Anyway, its amazing now, and it smells just as sweet as any other rose. |
@mathew we know a minority of people who call it the Free And Gratis Graphic Operation Toolkit
