If you're an audio engineer, or in networking, this might be the carpet from hell

@Natasha_Jay As someone who has two extension leads snaking across her garden to her telescope at night (one power, one ethernet) this would give me nightmares.

@KaraLG84 @Natasha_Jay

I have actually embraced this. Cables everywhere. Chaotic desktop.

Cable management is just too much. I just untangle stuff when I need to, and that's all. 😂

PalmAndNeedle

@KaraLG84 @Natasha_Jay That is the back of *everyone's* computer desk.

Aurani

@Natasha_Jay I think my brain would be constantly switching between expecting parts of it to shear off, and trying to avoid stepping on any "cracks".

That style on like a wall, to look more like geological strata might look cool.

Natasha Jay :mastodon: 🇪🇺

@Branedy
I keep seeing that as a narrowing cycle path! 😂

Branedy

@Natasha_Jay The lighting pulsing through the lines is what is interesting. Seen in Oslo sidewalk.

NadiaPurge

@Natasha_Jay ::mentally trying to cable-manage the carpet::
... is this Hotel California-Silicon Valley???

Mac Berg

@Natasha_Jay I'd wake up in the middle of the night and start taping them down.

Natasha Jay :mastodon: 🇪🇺

@macberg
Likewise

Too many presentations given with dodgy cabling over the years 🤣

adorfer

@macberg @Natasha_Jay i'd bring a roll of tunnel tape at my second stay in such a room.

megahertz

@Natasha_Jay holy crap that's terrible. I'd be walking on tippy toes all the time.

FurryBeta

@Natasha_Jay I seriously thought it was a room pic from DefCon and kept looking for the equipment

Snowshadow

@Natasha_Jay
A senior's nightmare! ("
trip" to hospital)

V'ger

@Natasha_Jay My hands get sweaty just looking at it.

djohngo

@Natasha_Jay I had to go find my gaffer tape to calm down.

DELETED

@Natasha_Jay

Haha,
Yeah I usually try to run them along the baseboards.
You know a roll of gaffers tape can do wonders

OutOfExile_IDR § Voice ®™️

@Natasha_Jay
You're exactly right, Those things should be taped down so no one trips over them.

xek

@Natasha_Jay It's the little channels of blank beige, like old (inappropriate) tape adhesive that's gotten covered by dust over the years, around each exposed "cable" that kills me.

If this was my actual carpet, I can guarantee you that the "empty" spots between the cables would wear thin within like a year, as there are only so many places to put my foot down without possibly stepping on a cable or picking one up on my foot on the next step.

Schrecke

@Natasha_Jay Instantly took my feet up - I‘m neither network nor audio nor any other engineer.

Sham :loading:

@Natasha_Jay I am both and my brain is doing backflips and failing to land them right now

The Witch of Crow Briar

@Natasha_Jay I would trip every second step, just because I’d be expecting to 😭

☠️ Maggot McFear ☠️

@Natasha_Jay My brain was all mad "Where the @*&^%@ is the gaffer tape???'" before I realized this was a pattern.

lobingera

@Natasha_Jay If the hotel doesn't have a similar picture on their webpage or Booking does not list this in their offer: I smell a lawsuit.

adorfer

@Natasha_Jay i would trip just by looking while walking.

remote procedure chris

@Natasha_Jay don't think i could maneuver through here without subconsciously doing the "cables on the floor" walk

Radio Resistance

@Natasha_Jay perfect, you will never know when you'll trip over a wire, or if it's just the carpet.

Feyter

@Natasha_Jay OMG I was like "why is your hotel room under construction?" for 5 minutes staring at this picture trying to make sense out of it... Than I read the text 😅

DELETED

@Natasha_Jay I'm neither as of current and I still hate this omg. I really don't like Hotel carpets. I don't know if it's my autism or my OCD, or both, but every hotel carpet pattern I've ever looked at has annoyed me. This might be one of the worst ones. But I've seen ones where it's just like a bunch of circles and I hate those too. Sometimes they interlock, sometimes they don't. With no rhyme or reason. CHOOSE ONE!

Woodswalked

@maybelline

What we need to do is cut all of the ‘cords’ out of the carpet, tape it down, and put a new carpet over this.

Then add rugs.

or… what you said.

Jargoggles

@Natasha_Jay
"I need carpet for my hotel."

"What kind of vibe are you going for?"

"The floor underneath someone's desk."

"Say no more."

Oliver Schonrock

@Natasha_Jay

LOL

Mine just looks like that. No need for special carpet.

Rob\ViewdataUK

@Natasha_Jay
Reminds me.. Worked for a computer service company, early 90s, it was mostly RS232 serial terminals, with a bit of ARCNET between the servers. So much ended up connected by flat ribbon cable placed under the carpet tiles! This was a new build, designed by the company owner, and he didn't include any provision for computer cabling! Phones, yes, but no data. We were pinning trunking to the walls within the first week of moving in..

ForrestGrump

@Natasha_Jay
Even if you are Not: this is drivin‘ you nuts.

Greg Bell

@Natasha_Jay is it possible to psychosomatically trip over something?

LivingLaVidaRetro

@Natasha_Jay

Ugh. That looks like it was bring your kid to work day at the carpet factory, some toddler got hold of a permanent marker, then went to town as the carpet was getting spooled up.

jon ⚝

@Natasha_Jay My first intuition after seeing the image, before reading the text, was:

"Someone should clean that up" and then I read ...

_maleficentgirl

@Natasha_Jay

looks like a dog dragged his butt across the carpet 🤢

Herr TurTur

@lindworm@chaos.social @Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt
I imagine walking on it in low light while being plastered.

xs4me2

@Natasha_Jay Had to blink my eyes twice… almost fooled me!

Rik D'huyvetters

@Natasha_Jay me: I don't understand. That carpet looks ok underneath those wir... Oh.

mdarge

@Natasha_Jay you should put some real cables to make the look more impressive. 😆

Phoebe Klein

@Natasha_Jay
What the fluff? :blobcateyes:
This is photoshoped? No, it's a real carpet. :blobcatfacepalm2:

Kat

@Natasha_Jay Was a network engineer and I've cleaned up worse, but still :screams internally:

h3artbl33d :openbsd: :ve:

@Natasha_Jay

Stawp. Please. This will be giving me nightmares for a week :flan_nooo:

mercurial yapper

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt didn't even know it was a carpet even after reading your post, until I read the alt text 😭

Natsura :transfem_verify:

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt i wanna be a video producer one day... and this carpet drives me insane

5klp471🌊

@Natasha_Jay
Wondering what hotel 'brand' this is. Just because a designer has an opinion of how things should 'look', it doesn't mean that they have any real life sense.

Sandra Lindsey

@Natasha_Jay I saw it as a model railway track layout 🤣

Ryan the hepcat

@Natasha_Jay I'm a consultant and this looks billable to me.

David Schuetz

@Natasha_Jay @smitty I want a short roll of this to secretly deploy to NOCs during cons.

Carolyn

@Natasha_Jay Or anyone who trips over things or has a migraine.

Cees-Jan Kiewiet :verified:

@Natasha_Jay As an SWE/SRE this is pissing me off. And I only do my home network and other cabling :RageShooky:

zvhxxl

@Natasha_Jay
Carpet from hell. Who designed this? What was this person thinking? "Wow, I'm an artist".

Hasufin

@Natasha_Jay That is the tech equivalent of the "red is a calming color" hospital floor.

uǝuunɹƃʇǝO

@Natasha_Jay and this is why engineers don't get a service revolver anymore.
