Israel is running concentration camps full of starving Palestinians and also deciding who gets to serve in the United States congress — this doesn’t end until we end it

@seachanger

The dictionary definition

a place where large numbers of people, especially political prisoners or members of persecuted minorities, are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area with inadequate facilities, sometimes to provide forced labor or to await mass execution.

@seachanger we're going to call it a holocaust now, right?

Eli Wallach's favorite Bass

@seachanger as my main patron, The former president of the pontifical council of Justice and peace would say... It is worse than a concentration camp

@seachanger : on March 10, among mostly Jewish people, I was protesting against Herzog who was present at the opening a new Holocaust museum in Amsterdam. He told the audience how much his people suffered *again* on Oct . 7 - and were still suffering (new.embassies.gov.il/en/news/p).

Note: he told them that after signing one of a zillion artillery shells, part of which were already used -and the rest of them intended- to eliminate Gazan children or their parents: archive.is/JDAVk.

I was carrying a sign that read:

My grandpa was a Jew
And now Gaza is a
concentration camp

You're the first other person since Oct. 7 whom I see mentioning "concentration camps".

I don't understand why most people "won't go as far" as to calling Gaza what it is: a human eradication facility.

Unless you're a rich Gazan who can bribe to escape the concentration camp, your chances of survival get slimmer every day.

Too many people are monsters.

@ErikvanStraten as with Hitler’s concentration camps, Israel’s oppression, persecution, and genocide of Palestinians persists because too many people refuse to see or name what is happening. it is one thing to hold a machine gun at the wall or tower, another to hold a pen or a microphone or a podium and say nothing at all

@ErikvanStraten @seachanger They even view Hitler as an inspiration! Like, I dunno, the people who talk about deporting political opponents on a train, starving large numbers of Palestinians, and expelling large groups of people sure sound Nazi-adjacent to me.

And people may accuse me of being an alarmist or cheapening the memory of what the Nazis did. What I would remind them is that Nazism is not in any way an especially unique ideology. Ideologies that are similar to Nazism can emerge in any sufficiently racist society that is facing a crisis of capitalism. That is the scariest part of it all.

No country is immune to dictatorship and genocide, and indeed dictatorship and genocide has been the norm throughout human history.

In addition, I would remind them that the Nazis started small. They began as the radical racists and antisemites who ranted passionately about the "subhumans" who wanted to destroy the "master race", and spoke of the weakness of parliamentary democracy. Then they gained power, started throwing their political opponents into camps, and it all went downhill from there, forming a positive feedback loop that led to genocide.

@ErikvanStraten @seachanger "never again" means condemning the fascists when they rise again, not insisting that neofascism is an impossibly and accusing anyone who dares speak up as offending the "real victims of fascism". It's completely counterproductive. Fascism is not an event, it is an ideology and a playbook that must be understood in order to prevent it from succeeding. To honor the spirit of "Never Again", we should speak out. Just as I condemn Trumpism and AfD, I condemn the ruling coalition of the Israeli government, especially its most radicaly racist members.

Also, the parallel between "Judeo-Bolshevik" and "Islamo-Nazi" is a particularly chilling one. This is literally a tactic used to dehumanize groups by associating them with ideologies that are perceived as harmful or violent.

@burnoutqueen : a bit of info about my perspective (feel free to ignore).

I lived in Indonesia for 6 years starting 1966 (my father was teacher on a theological school, I became an atheist).

As a Dutch kid (6 - 12 years old) I experienced *a bit* of what discrimination feels like. Although in general Indonesian people will do their utter best to appear polite, many of them were not yet prepared to forgive how Dutch soldiers acted like monsters in their country (trying to prolong the occupation of Indonesia by the Netherlands). Their kids were not so polite, they used to scold in particular me and my 1 year younger sister, often like "londoh, londoh" - slang for "Belanda" (which is how Indinesian people call the Netherlands and Dutch citizens).

Also many kids would stare at us, or start pulling hair out of our arms and legs - to see if that was for real (they do not usually have hair growth there).

Chinese people living there worked harder and were better in creating successfull businesses. They were more and more hated by Indonesians for that. Their shops and houses were burned and people were murdered. Many Chinese people changed their last names to be less suspicious.

Watching the Olympics a bit, I keep being surprised of the amount of *similarities* between people who look and/or think differently, have another religion, prefer their own gender, feel they're in the wrong body etcetera.

IMO it is a good thing that every person is unique. Unfortunately that may also invoke hatred or make people more greedy.

We all share one globe, let's enjoy life and stop destroying someone else's.

That Israel have become the Nazi party is something I'll never get my head around.
