@GGMcBG here's an idea for you. I don't think Vance started on couches. He worked his way up.

Maybe he got canned from a job in the furniture industry because of his proclivities.

Maybe he liked his stuffed hamster, and when it fell apart he moved to sofas because of the trauma.
