After a ~year of development, the 1:3 scale working VT100 terminal is ready to go!

It has a tiny working USB keyboard with ~80 keys. It has a cute little 3.5" display panel. It may be the cutest thing I've ever created but you tell me!

To celebrate the completion of what turned out to be a bear of a project, for one week there's a $75 discount code for friends of smol retros: DINGDANGFRIENDS

Ok, time for me to take a bath and weep for exhausted joy.

A photo of miniature computer terminal inspired by the DEC VT100, complete with working display and a full USB keyboard.

@Professor_Stevens I used several reference photos of VT100 keyboards. What looks wrong?

@Professor_Stevens Here's one example and all of the original layouts I find online are the same as this one. I did bump a few switches left or right so they fit but they're all where they were on the originals, relative to each other.

@trevorflowers

That's my only critique. It's quite an impressive accomplishment.

The PET was noteworthy for having the same checkerboard layout for its keys.

A Commodore PET 2001 personal computer. It has a tetrahedronal monitor enclosure atop a white angular case holding a cassette tape machine on the left and a rectilinear keyboard on the right.

@Professor_Stevens @trevorflowers That keyboard is as I remember from using the VT100. Trevor obviously had some constraints placed upon him in shrinking the design.

Jeff Rizzo

@trevorflowers that is by FAR the coolest thing I've seen recently. Great job!

@trevorflowers I sadly don’t have the space for this, but please accept my heartfelt swoon and congratulations on such a wonderful recreation.

DELETED

@trevorflowers

Congrats!

I've got a vintage Epson with ICs damaged (I guess) I wish I could find its spare parts (I love the way it is at typing).

I like old craps like that! Contrarily to you, I couldn't finish my 1st SINCLAIR...

@trevorflowers that'd look so cute with a little crt screen. hope eventually someone recovers the lost art of making them

Marsh Ray

@trevorflowers That screen is much nicer than the original black and white one.

@trevorflowers

Congratulations!

I'd forgo the discount, if you would deign to ship to Germany. Just don't tell my brother. He told me not to buy any new hardware!

(Edit: Sorry, checked my account, can't afford it ATM. If pressed, I'd probably go for the CM. Terrific Stuff! How can a body be so talented?)

@trevorflowers I had an original VT100 and an other model. I'm pretty sure I both took them to recycling when we moved home some 18 years ago.
