@vkc in a home lab environment do you have a preferred method of doing so?

I’d imagine if I’m doing a regular rsync between two raid setups at separate locations I could do a review of data… but not sure that’d be the most effective use of time.

@baahemian "do I have a preferred method" - yes. Pretend everything failed, shut it all down, literally unplug it from the wall, and go through the steps you'd take to restore it.

I am firmly on the side of "don't trust a tool to be correct when they say you've backed up your data". Whatever means you have for backup, test them like a fire drill.

@vkc well… I’ve been meaning to have some “fun” over the weekend. Thanks for the inspiration linux mom!

What is it they say, "an untested backup is just wishful thinking", something like that?

Anyway, if you haven't tested your backups lately, do so. That's my "jobs for the weekend" pitch to you all to plan for this weekend.

(yes, that was a Gardeners' World reference)

@vkc If anyone needs some "nice people talking about flowers and gardens" ASMR to help deal with ... everything?, here are a few clips. bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006mw1h/

@vkc Brain, now is not the time to make a cloning joke.

@vkc I used to develop backup software and file systems for a living and I endorse this message!
