In case you're using Firefox on mobile - so myself and like four others - disabling Firefox' new Facebook data collection feature is quite a bit harder than on desktop, but it can be done:

1. Go to chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml
2. Use the search field to find the entry for aboutConfig and enable it
3. Go to about:config
4. Search for dom.private-attribution.submission.enabled and set it to false

Done. This only works on Android, because Firefox on iOS is just a Safari skin.

@thomholwerda thank you so much
i was this morning thinking if they've put that on phone too or what was going to happen there, you're a savior of doubt and stress right here

@thomholwerda woah! I thought about:config was only available in nightlies. This is amazing. Thank you!

@thomholwerda Thanks for this! I also use Firefox on Android (for uBlock).

@thomholwerda i'm using Fennec, it's still at version 125.

zyxhere💭

@thomholwerda not work on Android (fennec). This param doesn't exist

zyxhere💭

@JerryWham @thomholwerda its was introduced in v128 fennec is still no v127

zyxhere💭

@JerryWham @thomholwerda Also you have about:config in fennec no need to do the whole chrome:// workaround

@thomholwerda Is that different again from disabling the marketing data thing called Adjust?

@thomholwerda Wait, do the Firefox on desktop contingent not also use Firefox on mobile? Does everyone just use Chrome?

We're firefox-on-mobile gang too, just on general principle.

@thomholwerda thank you for the instructions for mobile. Unbelievable though. Ugh

@thomholwerda just checked on fennec (f-droid) and that key is missing, phew :blobcatsweats:

@thomholwerda Thanks very much sir. 👏

Even if not a perfect solution, I guess it is time for me to switch to Mull.

@thomholwerda On Fenec I found about:config already enabled. I don't see a dom.private-attribution.submission.enabled, but I did see a datareporting.policy.dataSubmissionEnabled which sounds like something that needs to be off to me anyway. (I turned it off for now. Will see if things explode.)

I would imagine the data collection is probably against F-Droid's privacy policies? Maybe it will get built out? Fingers crossed.

zyxhere💭

@nazokiyoubinbou @thomholwerda it just enables the datasumbmission *policy* of firefox doesn't actually report any data

zyxhere💭

@nazokiyoubinbou @thomholwerda what firefox should collect when the telemetry is turned on (fennec doesn't have telemetry at all)

@thomholwerda "chrome://"? Is that correct? Firefox isn't Chromium.

marc's double

@jackemled
but i’ll admit, it’s not a 100% satisfying explanation. the url form chrome:// seems to have a wider set of functions than just in relation to interface elements

zyxhere💭

@jackemled @thomholwerda chrome has been a thing way before the browser came out its used for UI customization

Luna Lactea

@zyx @thomholwerda Firefox is not Chromium. It's a completely different engine.

@thomholwerda
Why going to chrome? You can find the about:config page in Firefox directly. Thanks for the hint!

@deedend @thomholwerda @BrodieOnLinux
In Firefox for Android the about:config is deactivated.

I can confirm the settings appear in Firefox Android 128.0 (Build #2016030615) .

Fuck Meta, i read Mozilla implementedcthis with them.

So tired of stoping this tracking nonsense.

@DBG3D
I've just changed it on my Firefox beta on android. Maybe it's because it is the beta version
