alright, my bedroom is also my office and i don’t like feeling like it’s the same room, so i bought this ikea shelf as a room divider. i now have to fill it with stuff. i’m open to suggestions. books, design stuff, tech, plants, idk

i do not have a budget as i am bad with money.

my bedroom, which is very large (this is not a flex, im just stating my non-problems) with mostly empty walls. there’s a large sliding door facing the street, my desk is against one wall along with my dresser. the new shelf is floating to divide the room.

so far, i have two ideas and they’re both bad:
- buy every A Book Apart book because they have rainbow spines and it’ll look pretty on my shelf
- a purely decorative G4 cube

i need your collective help so badly

too many names

@samhenrigold still sounds cheaper than some of the ideas we've executed on, sorry I can't help 😆

@mikeymikey oooo shiny, did you do one of those "books by the foot" thing or was this all organically amassed

too many names

@samhenrigold purely organic result between my wife and myself 😄

@samhenrigold a classic Mac and some bookshelf speakers can go a long way

Pat Murray 🏳️‍🌈

@samhenrigold an absurd rube goldberg machine that doubles as an alarm clock

sam henri gold

@_patmurray im already using the health app bedtime sleep focus mode, is that not enough of a rube goldberg clusterfuck

back when Ikea still existed, I remember them having these drawer-like things you could put into these shelf units

robb

@samhenrigold solid cubes of tightly stacked $2 bills

sam henri gold

@dlx with those bank robbery dye pack bomb things attached as a conversation starter?

Roger Ogden

@samhenrigold okay but how do you like the gesture? I need to replace my aeron from (literally) 1999.

@ogden it's a wonderful chair for weird sitting positions. i sit in basically every way except normal and i love that i can manipulate the arms to accommodate

@samhenrigold I’m sure other people have suggested it so so I’ll just give an upvote to those little fabric cubes that slide in and out. Probably not for all of the slots, but just the ones that you don’t have a better idea of something nice to display. As a bonus, they fully block the view through that square creating more of a sense of division in the room.

Sage

@samhenrigold If you are bad with money, can I recommend buying LEGO and using that for display? Absolute money pit, highly recommended.

@samhenrigold Given the constraints, I’m going to have to go with gold bars, Fort Knox style.

@samhenrigold
Wouldn’t it be nice to move the shelf to the opposite wall so that you can’t see your desk from your bed?

Oh and Lego architecture might be a nice crossover to the design part.

And a nice lantern like lamp maybe?

sam henri gold

@lukasweidinger I like that moving idea! I'm holding off on getting lighting since I just pre-ordered this little NYC subway lamp onlyny.com/products/mta-table-
