Gregory's Server@sabi In my second job out of college (circa 1997), I used my then-ancient 1200 baud modem to connect to a newspaper editorial mainframe whose modem could *only* connect at 300 baud. I had to lifeboat off a few dozen in-process stories so that we could load them onto our new writing-and-pagination system.

@sabi it’s been so long, I don’t recall. At the time, I think I had a 56k modem as my main modem and a 14.4k in my junk drawer, but neither could drop low enough to connect to the mainframe. That’s when I remembered my 1200 baud modem, and sure enough, it could maintain a connection. Fun times :) |
