Doing my part for the 4 young people on Fedi and voting “I've only ever known broadband” :P

Although I am in the impossibly small group of people that have only ever known broadband for “real internet” but have used modems for small private/point-to-point networks, so I guess I could've voted for my “first modem” still… (28.8 kbit/s for the record)

@nytpu I also have plenty of fond memories of dial my friends’ modems for games and file transfers

BBSes were lonnnnnngggg dead when I was born but I have fond memories of playing door games on the few that survived still too :)

one of the first things I did when I started learning more about computers and starting to get into retro gaming (because my computer couldn't run anything else) was figure out install Syncterm and connect to a few BBSes. Then I found out my school didn't block telnet (because what underpaid middle/high school network admin would bother blacklisting telnet?) and I'd play Trade Wars 2002 in class lol
