@sabi compression hardware doesn’t count right?

@sabi the Courier modem I had was 2400 baud, but it claimed you could get 9600 with compression. Problem is I was mostly using the zmodem protocol iirc which already had compression, so the additional hardware compression didn’t help. @phredmoyer makes sense, there were several standards with compression baked it but I never felt like they did much. Especially as modems were used more and more for internet connections where a lot of media was also already compressed |
@phredmoyer I’m mostly curious about advertised speed but compression hardware is interesting. Was this separate, dedicated hardware?
