@neauoire there’s a format called flic that, according to email correspondence i had with its creator peter kennard, was the inspiration for “tagged” binary formats (iff, riff, tiff, png, avi, ico, etc) (allthough the timing for that claim doesn’t quite line up)

the format itself is effectively very similar to animated gif, with optimisations for smooth playback on low end devices with very low memory and disk bandwidth.
