@neauoire bats cannot be intentionally housed or kept as pets in USA (and probably Canada?) because of rabies

@cancel I think in Canada it might be allowed? I grew up with a bat house in the backyard, maybe it wasn't allowed

@neauoire that would sketch me out since in the lower 48 states in USA the % of bats with rabies varies by species but it's around 5%-10%

@neauoire @cancel you can have bat houses in the US. You just can't have them as pets. So it's like a bird house.

@neauoire @cancel you’re totally allowed to put bat houses on your property in the US. There are organizations that will try to get them to you for free or cheap to help support the population.

I think attaching a bat house to a vehicle and moving them around is where it stops being considered humane or legal since you are at that point transporting wildlife. Bringing them through customs would definitely get you snarled up in bureaucratic issues with both Canada and the US.
