"ActivityPub" is just how speakers of Federation Standard pronounce the borrowed version of the original Klingon phrase _'aq tI, vI' tIy pab_.

The first part, _'aq tI_, means "vegetation predicts it" — in other words, a grassroots movement saw the Fediverse coming, and was able to prepare a segment of society to use it. Meanwhile, the latter portion _vI' tIy pab_ can be loosely translated as "follow the curly point", which is a bit more opaque but probably refers to practice of ending sentences with a comma instead of a period to emphasize that you will always have more to say in the future (since now you are on a platform that doesn't limit all posts to 280 characters).
