Gregory's ServerThere was one feature from yesterday's #WWDC24 that made my jaw drop slam to the floor. When you’re taking handwritten notes, it learns your handwriting style and it cleans it up as you write. It doesn’t convert it into text or into a font or anything — it dynamically just cleans up your actual handwriting. I have dysgraphia, my handwriting is terrible but I love the action of handwriting notes. That’s unbelievably cool to me. Real, practical magic.

 @samhenrigold I’m invested already. Maybe you can call it ‘Gallop’… or ‘Cantr’ if you want it a little more Web 2.0.  @samhenrigold Does this need the M4/pencil pro or something? Not seeing any changes here, though maybe I just need to write more @harshil Nope, this is just an M2 iPad Pro. You do need to be on 18 and wait for the model to download (tap the … button in the pencil platter) @samhenrigold I'm curious if this is using my other really crappy writing to correct my equally crappy writing? Like should I make some notes as carefully as I can to show my writing at its best?  @samhenrigold I have *such* mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, yes, that’s super cool to help increase legibility and “clean it up” as you say. At the same time, it feels like homogenizing handwriting as it is happening kills a bit of the charm of handwriting?? I imagine it’s an optional thing you can turn off; do you know if it’s on by default? It would feel very strange to me to constantly have my own, personal handwriting constantly “corrected” by a machine. @cassidy I just posted a demo of my own handwriting. It's shockingly organic and I feel like it synthesizes it well enough that it doesn't feel foreign or like a predetermined script font  @samhenrigold oh that is nice. I have reams of notes on stuff I cannot read because I wrote it. |
