KDE Connect allows me to: - See texts on any of my computers @vkc KDE Connect in combination with Syncthing on my Android and Linux devices is a far more reliable solution compared to cloud based ecosystems that Google, Microsoft and Apple implement. Not to mention everything stays locally on my devices so I can ensure that all my data stays under my control ;) @vkc Gosh, I misread this as "Send" texts on any computers. Followed by the "get notified on my phone" point I had visions of sending SMS text messages to phone as notifications! @vkc I'd never heard of this before, so I checked it out, and OMG it's wonderful! Thanks so much for the recommendation! @vkc@linuxmom.net Yeah, but does KDE have a bunch of men in slick suits in a giant auditorium convincing people that they are innovating on features that definitely haven't been present in other systems for years now. @vkc it even somehow understands the actions on notifications, so I can reply on unidentified proprietary XMPP chat that has no PC clients from PC.
@vkc I had not heard of KDE connect before. Thank you for this wonderful revelation. @vkc I’ve tried it. KDE is massively slower and needs more resources than macOS on my quite old 2014 MacBook Pro. So yeah, good that it works for you but it’s not a real alternative for most non-nerds. Plus, there’s effectively zero professional media software available on platforms KDE runs on. @herrbischoff I run my successful YouTube channel completely and totally from Linux. It's possible. @vkc Possible is different from convenient. I don’t doubt it works with the proper motivation, time investment, technical skill and the willingness to make compromises. There’s however nothing even close to the Affinity suite for example. @baahemian @vkc Doesn’t address the performance issues but that’s one piece of professional media software, thanks. Any more I should know about? btw for GNOME, GSConnect is available from the Extensions Manager. and you still install KDE Connect on the smartphone side. @vkc I liked the idea of forwarding phone calls to PC via Bluetooth from Windows though |
@vkc I've seen that the SMS part of it is better in the Gnome version (GSConnect, is it?) But basically is great, yeah.
