@tubetime (I remember reading about the system a number of years ago, and seeing a small photo, thought 'that looks like the tower right near me' in Seattle. It *was* the tower right near me. Sadly, said tower has since lost its old Long Lines microwave stuff...) https://hackaday.com/2017/07/10/horns-across-america-the-att-long-lines-network/ @tubetime long lines antenna, right? I remember seeing them at a few former Bell sites around. @tubetime microwave relay station used for radio and television broadcast. Television eventually migrated to satellite and telephone to fibre optic. I got to talk to the crew dismantling one at one time. In this case the entire tower was dismantled but apparently a lot of them got repurposed as cell phone sites or other uses including bird nesting sites! @tubetime I wish I had a bucket of money back when AT&T put many of their Long Lines sites up for sale...late 1999 or early 2000 I think? @tubetime Is it a fully-automated nerd trap? Watch out for any pits or tripwires on the approach! *falls into a rabbit hole* |
@tubetime old AT&T long lines site?
