@Gargron I tried that app and am currently writing it from it, and there are a couple of questions: lacking functionality and bugs, for example when I'm typing a toot and cut all text all just crashes (OnePlus 9R, Android 12). Otherwise it's ok but feels raw
@Gargron Yes, but when I download it, I just get Finnish as language and I can not change it to English or anything else. So if people get that problem (or similar) they will probably not use the app. 😔
@marialiv Yeah, we have a number of 1-star ratings because of this. Somehow, a sv-FI translation has been added, and somebody translated it into Finnish, and the actual Finnish translation is empty. But I think 1.4.0 added Swedish?
@Gargron I did see some Swedish in the sign in, but then it's all Finnish. I downloaded it again now and got in by guessing the Finnish words. But it's better to skip the Nordic countries languages completely and just keep everything in English. We do all speak English from early childhood but we usually don't understand each others Nordic languages... 🙃
@Gargron can you cooperate with metatext? because metatext is really a good alternative, the native mastodon app lacks some functions e.g. i can not use mastodon . social on it
@Gargron what technical challenges would there be for someone who knows swift ui to just fork the iPad app and make a Mac one. Is it something that was considered and deemed not feasible or just something that you just did not bother looking at ?
@Gargron is there a proper place to ask for improved behavior for iPad in horizontal mode? With that configuration, there’s a main column timeline taking 3/4 of screen and a smaller 1/4 area on the right that often has things I want to see in the main view. In particular, when I was setting things up, the main 3/4 window was blank until I started following people so the initial experience was poor. I’m mostly using Metatext now so not a big deal overall.
@Gargron Honestly I hope for good retention numbers! Great that people are checking the service out and downloading the app, creating accounts. I hope they all stick around!
Nordnick, apparently something as trivial as the requirement of JDK 17 is a showstopper for them and now we gotta wait approximately one eternity for them to update the Debian image for their CI container... Because, of course, downloading a .deb file with prebuilt OpenJDK and installing it as part of the build script is also a non-starter, for reasons. https://gitlab.com/fdroid/fdroiddata/-/merge_requests/10909
@Gargron I don't know how to get to federated timeline though the app. I'm seeing only my followed content, which isnt much, and I can't find new things to follow without federated access. I dont wanna leave any ratings until I get this figured out.
@Gargron for me it won't load the "hashtags," "news," etc views. So I'm not ready to give it a good rating because it's clearly broken but I assumed it was because of growing pains. (These views do load for me on web.) I'll certainly review it in time!
@Gargron There are no ratings in the #FDroid-Store :mastoface_with_rolling_eyes: By now can I also see content in the News and Community tabs in the #MastodonApp, so I can see an improvement there (which might also be due to the update of the instance's server). For new arrivals it's definitely a bummer that the tabs that might help them discover new people around them remain empty in the beginning :mastoface_with_rolling_eyes: But it's a solid four and a half stars...
@Gargron I’m one of those people who don’t do ratings and am annoyed like nothing to have the constant pop-ups asking me to. To be honest, it never once occurred to me that my radical rebelliousness might actually have a negative effect on the app developers. 😞 Thanks for setting me straight.
@Gargron the app doesn't allow basic things like clicking on followers to see who is following you or clicking on someone else and seeing who they follow
@Gargron Using it since yesterday. Looks quite good so far. 👍 Would be great if I can add tabs for DM or hashtags. And a language filter for the "feed" would be be to filter Arabic etc which I can't read or add GIF to a toot. Does it only show the the local "feed"? At least it looks to me. Started with #mastodon yesterday evening.
