I know $12 USD is a lot of money for some people, so to celebrate 1000+ sales (!!!), I'm giving away 1000 PDF copies of How Git Works (honour system: only if $12 is a lot of money for you!)

Here's the link, enter code BUYONEGIVEONE at checkout to get a free copy wizardzines.com/zines/git/

(it'll ask you for a billing address but you can enter a fake address if you'd prefer)

@b0rk congratulations on publishing this book, I'm sure it is great. I'll be getting a copy in paperback

I have a rule in general for zine launches that for every 1 zine we sell, we give away approximately 1 zine to someone who would have trouble affording it otherwise with code BUYONEGIVEONE

been doing this since 2018 and we've given away at least 34,000 zines. (I don't have the exact number right now)

@b0rk Thanks for doing this! I was on the fence on whether it would be worth it to me but it’s definitely worth it if I’m (in a very loose sense) helping send a copy to someone who couldn’t afford it otherwise.

@b0rk That is absolutely wonderful of you. 🧑

@b0rk You are a great person Julia! $12 would be something like β‚Ή1000 in India. Which a lot even for relatively well off families to sped on a book.

Thank you so much for being so awesome!

@b0rk how deep does this go into the obscure parts?

Julia Evans

@efi very little focus on obscure git features (we don't even talk about worktree or bisect, let alone send-email)

a lot of focus on somewhat obscure details of git's core model of how branches work (like all of the different ways you can lose commits with --amend, stash, detached HEAD state, etc)

@b0rk ok, then I'll pass and just recommend it to friends when relevant πŸΎπŸ’•

@b0rk I've enjoyed the git posters you have shared and this awesome gesture got me buy a print zine. It'll be awesome to have a physical reference especially since my git-fu is severely weakening since magit is an excellent interface.
Congrats and thanks!

@b0rk thank you very much for your generousity :-)

@b0rk

thank you so much! I am currently jobless but literally a couple days before you released it I decided to get better at Git - then you release this within days of me deciding that.

Once I'm employed again, there are a number of other ones that look *very* interesting. :>

Edit: I am a *nix admin and Python dev with extensive experience in Animation, if anyone reading this is hiring. I can also drive semi trucks.

@b0rk the discover of the discount for Brazil was a game changer for me. It’s now possible to contribute and take advantage of all that you provide with your work. Thank you!

@b0rk I bought How Git Works and am very happy with it and your success.

I'd love a version for emacs' magit.

Hunterrules

Hunterrules

@b0rk any chance instead of getting one for myself, I could get a copy donated to a public library?

@b0rk Thank you so much ;; I'm a broke bootcamp student now and this'll be a nice resource
