Google plan to limit ad-blockers kicks off next week.
If only there were a way we could fire Chrome so we could out-fox Google's plan 🤔

@LilahTovMoon #Brave will remain unaffected by the 3.0 change because it does not use easily bypassed extensions to enforce privacy controls and instead relies on an internal Rust-based engine. Barring that there is still no reason to use Firefox since #mullvad is based on the same engine and doesn't come with the #Mozilla baggage. Finally I would like to point out that the impact is wider than just the browser. @LilahTovMoon oh dear. I have uBlock Origin deployed to about half of our users in Chrome and Edge, and it's unlikely I'll be able to switch them to Firefox. (Our SSO policies are only set up for Chrome/Edge, and these are people that use "the Google" and don't even know what Chrome is. Plus that decision is above my pay grade.) I'll have to keep an eye on this to see what happens. Here's hoping I can deploy a whitelist the same way if I need to push uBlock Origin Lite instead. @LilahTovMoon I just dumped Microsoft last week. I use Linux now. Google is a bit harder. I won't buy Apple because of the expense and trust issues. i use Android. Unfortunately there isn't a good opensource operating system for phones like there is for PC. If there were a good option, i would take it. @LilahTovMoon [ edit ] @LilahTovMoon I went from Netscape Navigator directly to Firefox and it has never failed me. I see someone asking me to disable my adblocker and I leave. Be well my friend. 💕 @LilahTovMoon I maintain that this is going to be a slow burn. First, they break the good add-ons but allow some people to put them back if they notice. Then they finish breaking the add-ons. Then, ever so slowly, they start giving companies ways to inject ads and trackers that the new ad blockers won't be able to stop. The limitation was always the point. The fact they've been rolling out some pretty potent YouTube adblock detectors is an indicator that they want to obfuscate this change. @LilahTovMoon What’s the latest from @Vivaldi on this? Will we still be able to keep using uBlock Origin? @LilahTovMoon The main reason why I haven't switched back to FF from Chrome is that my large number of tabs is really awkward to use without Tab Groups, a feature that hasn't yet been implemented in FF. |
@LilahTovMoon "out-fox" :blobfoxcrylaugh:
