Everyone I've talked about why they won't use Mastodon did that there are no active users here so I hope we can prove them wrong @nonordinarytiles These timelines require some of the heaviest database queries to display, so I have disabled them here to make everything else work faster. @nonordinarytiles Check out the explore tab! I don't know if Tusky has added it yet, but we have an official Android app that does have it. Everyone gets to see the same 'local' timeline? Then maybe it would be a nice feature if #mastodon could periodically (say once per minute?) pre-generate this timeline, and then everyone gets this cached timeline for the next minute. Might be a nice "first aid measure" for overloaded instances? @tinloaf @nonordinarytiles That's the problem, it's not pre-generated but it does have to be tailored for everyone according to mutes, blocks, domain blocks, and language filters. @Gargron @nonordinarytiles And if a few of the new users joined patreon or otherwise donated, would that help you get these feature back online sooner? (I ask as I have the patreon page open and I'm trying to decide which tier to support at.)  @Gargron I remember when the WhatsApp / Facebook acquisition happened and there were few days where people moved to other messengers (Threema in particular). I hope this wonโt be a similar situation but more people adopt and stick to Mastodon (etc.) @zatnosk Yes, presumably, though I am not aware of any such servers and doubt it would make a difference on the numbers. @Gargron It feels like this is a good indication of how people would quite like to have safety and respect on their networks.  @Gargron @chapmanjane Do you mean chatting somehow differently from what we're doing right now? You can make posts that are hidden from your followers and the public ("Only people I mention" setting). @Gargron how can you add monthly activity when it hasnโt even been a month since Elon acquired Twitter?? @Gargron Most people will probably leave after a while again. Best thing would be to get as much feedback from all the new users for now and keep improving. P.S. I'm also new here and I want to congratulate all the people who contributed on this project.  @Gargron I have just joined Mastodon in case there are negative changes over at the Bird Site. Twitter users will have to wait and see what happens as a result of this buyout. Mastodon has gained 106,723 monthly active users since the end of March (when Elon bought 9.2% of Twitter's shares). 93,603 are new accounts. Overall that's a 42% increase in Mastodon's MAU.  @Gargron I remember there used to be a bit that showed daily graphs of active/new users and posts by hour. @Gargron Can we look for trending hashtags or trenting posts of other instances? @Gargron Have the Local and Federated timelines been disabled on .Social or can they just not keep up with the influx? I'm concerned that a lot of those accounts are panic-parks, rather than people who end up actually staying and engaging. @schwa Each server has their own MAU on their frontpage (when you're logged out, that is). Combined MAU is summing all of them up together from a list of servers that exist. @Gargron I am so happy to hear this. Especially after #TruthSocial tried to steal your code as their own. I hope I am wrong. @Gargron just arrived on the platform but I tried sign into account settings but it does recognize my password. Tried to reset password but cannot because its not showing up in my email. @Gargron Yes, many like me waited until the last minute, hoping that Elon would change his mind or build his own platform. His hostile takeover of Twitter is so wrong and concerning on so many levels. I am sure many more will leave once they figure out where they can go, if they can take their followers with them or transfer their posts. It was more or less panic at twitter when I left, and I am so glad I migrated here. It feels so fresh and kind (and also clean for some reason). @Gargron amazing to see. Great to have an alternative to a large corporation running social media. @Gargron Liking things so far. Only thing I'm 'dubious' about is I've seen accounts on multiple servers using registered company names, but are not official accounts. Maybe it's just early withdrawal from the blue tick.
