@davidho Well, not necessarily. Here in L.A., when (over a period of many years) they converted to LED street lighting, they took the opportunity to pull out all the old power cables and replaced them with much lower capacity cables suitable for the LEDs. This is not uncommon, since those old cables become problematic over many years, and lower capacity cables are far less expensive.

@lauren @davidho I still think it’s a great idea, though, because even if the cables have been replaced, there must still be infrastructure for them (conduit, etc).

@ELS @davidho Considering how much work was involved in replacing those cables in the first place (extremely time consuming) I doubt the city is interested in screwing around down there again for at least another 50 years or so. Especially with EV bubble bursting.

@lauren @davidho Personally, I’d rather see cities invest more in bicycle infrastructure and public transit, especially the latter that can accommodate those who can’t bike.

@ELS @davidho Public transit just doesn't work in cities like L.A. Time to stop even trying to push the envelope on that. Vast amounts of money wasted.

@lauren @davidho LA is a disaster for bicycles. That needs to be fixed, but it won’t work for folks who can’t bike.

@ELS @davidho This is a sore point with me, all the people who don't seem to realize that not everyone can bike, and that even for those who can, it's often totally impractical and too dangerous in the city.

@lauren @davidho @ELS biking is too dangerous bc so many of the places where it could be safe to bike are filled by parked cars.

@lauren @ELS @davidho public transit *does* work in la. Or it would if it got the same investment as private cars. LA used to have an extensive public transit system before it was ripped out. What doesn't work in LA is everyone driving their own car, which is why it's worked famous for its traffic.
