this morning I was out-poetried by a sidewalk that had thoughts on pain, impermanence, resilience and beauty

A grey concrete sidewalk, embedded with tiny pebbles. There's a huge crack running down the center, but it spirals like a strand of DNA and has become filled with purple flowers that have fallen from nearby trees. It looks like a purple stream

@ElleGray Thank you. I have to wonder how many of us would have had the presence of mind to recognize this.❤️

Femme Malheureuse

@Oddly @ElleGray I thought of kintsugi *and* hanafubuki (花吹雪).

Hanafubuki describes the drift of petals falling and accruing like snow in a storm.

Hanafubuki kintsugi.

@ElleGray
"Boss, the roads won't hold no more!
The cracks are spreading, and we ain't got no more tar!"
"Patch em! Patch em with flowers. do it! NOW!"

"And I have filled my broken places,
with the petals of fallen flowers"

AriSunDog, Spooky Version!

@ElleGray "out-poetried"!!! Fanfreakingtastic. Love it. Thank you! 💕

@ElleGray man a dandylion growing in a sidewalk crack gets you the same effect. If it takes that, which is MUCH CLEARER to get that message, it's a pretty low bar.

@smolbean32 what a strange reply. You seem very unhappy. Your personality isn't helping things.

@ElleGray NYEHEHE YOU HAVE FALLEN PREY TO ONE OF MY TRICKS! I DID NOT CARE ABOUT THIS POST IN THE SLIGHTEST! MY ONLY GOAL WAS TO MAKE A STUPID REPLY TO WAST 5.7 SECONDS OF YOUR TIME! I WAS MERELY BORED OUT OF MY MIND AND DECIDED TO DO A BIT OF TOMFOOLERY! WITH A PURPOSEFULLY OUTRAGEOUS COMMENT I MANAGED TO CATCH YOUR ATTENTION! IN THIS WORLD IT'S WASTE TIME OR HAVE YOUR TIME WASTED! (Caps intended)

@ElleGray That’s such an awesome take 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Flaming Cheeto

@ElleGray there's a vein of beauty running through all of it

@ElleGray

Nature's version of Kintsugi road repair?

@ElleGray
what a moment
beautiful alt text

@ElleGray i initially read this as "out-paretoed" and that's also beautiful in a very different way

Chris Combs (he/him)

@ElleGray that's really nice!

reminds me of this artist who makes paper castings of sidewalk cracks emilyfussner.com/cracks-castin

Mike Nelson Pedde

@ElleGray

One for you. Not nearly as eloquent as yours...

A somewhat abstract image of a section of pavement, dark gray but with meandering white cracks. Moving up the centre of the image are a series of black lines, roughly parallel, as if someone tried to bandage the pavement back together.
Mike Nelson Pedde

@ElleGray It's almost as if someone was trying to bandage it together... 🤕

BTW, I'd suggest you title your image Kintsugi 🙂

Julia

@ElleGray This must be the natural model of the Japanese art of kintsugi 🤩

@ElleGray The wound is the place where the light gets in. The cracks are the places where the flower petals gather.

@ElleGray I couldn't tell these were flowers in the timeline image and thought instead that Bobby Fingers had buried something here

Tidings of Comfort & Jo

@ElleGray it reminds me of Andy Goldsworthy’s work.
Some examples. But if you don’t know his work and you think this is beautiful you’d love his art and check more out.
he also deals with ideas around impermanence, the ephemeral, fragile, transformation, using nature and time. My most favorite artist.

@ElleGray I love how the alt txt gives us context on how you perceive the scene/image
