@NanoRaptor I always wondered if there was a name for the type of pseudo-3d scope display from that game. It's kind of a pity it never took off as a trope.

@spacehobo @NanoRaptor I always marveled at the genius of this 2D projection. I haven't seen it elsewhere.

@tommythorn @NanoRaptor I saw it once in an "Our Galactic Neighbourhood" poster. I think astronomers do use this projection sometimes, but haven't seen fit yet to give it a catchy name.

@spacehobo @tommythorn @NanoRaptor Apparently that radar scope was a late addition to Elite. David Braben said he came up with it when tinkering when the game was supposedly fiinshed - two weeks before duplication. gamespot.com/articles/how-elit

It was a superb UI (UX?) design, it allowed me to completely visualise the real-time 3D environment I was flying in without any difficulty. It utterly blew my mind at the time.
