@publiclewdness hmm a lot of this is a bit much for non-technical people.

@jcrabapple @publiclewdness Indeed it is. DeGoogling takes work, it's inconvenient, and you must have the privileges of wealth, time, and technical knowledge. What we really need is across the board data protection regulation that is enforced with meaningful consequences for Big Tech. @publiclewdness @jcrabapple I guarantee that you wouldn't want an unregulated food supply, water supply, or an unregulated pharmacy. Regulation works. Have you seen the state of the food, water and pharma in many places even with govt regulations ? Companies violate the hell out of laws and all the govt does is fine them less money than they made screwing people over by breaking the laws all the while the govt takes bribes from them in the form of lobbying. Furthermore you don't get to decide what I want or don't want. @publiclewdness @jcrabapple Yes, I have, generally it's safe other than some well publicised outliers like Flint. @publiclewdness @jcrabapple Anyway, it's cool, just sharing my opinion, like you. We don't have to agree or discuss further. |
@jcrabapple
Can buy devices with alternative operating systems already installed.
As for the rest is setting up an account with Tuta any different than one with Gmail ?
F-droid is a download away and doesn't need an account.
The only real work with XMPP and the like is choosing a server, same for Nextcloud.
At the end of the day the user who puts in no effort gets nothing out of it.
