My dream is for computers to be able to solve simple problems for themselves, instead of forcing me to do their job

This is one reason why I avoid command-line software as much as possible

@nikitonsky what if the version you specified was a typo though? My dream is for computers to not download huge SDK packages when not explicitly asked to do it :)

iliazeus

@nikitonsky but an interactive prompt of "press Y to install now" would be nice, I guess

@iliazeus @nikitonsky

It could ask: "version not found, install? Y/n"

@iliazeus Let’s put it this way: I’d prefer if computer treated everything I do as if I am right rather than treating it as if I am wrong

@iliazeus > to not download huge SDK packages

I also think this argument lost its power a while ago. Nobody cares about download sizes anymore. There are websites that download more on first visit than JVM total size

iliazeus

@nikitonsky a JDK package is 300 MB (compressed) in my distro: archlinux.org/packages/extra/x

I doubt even web apps download _that_ much on first visit (I'll be very sad if they do, at least)

Their licensing model is crazy. You pay for each company employee if you use Oracle Java.

@eugensson yeah, I was trying to get jmc but it’s not there
