@briankrebs Fwiw, that's a Masto feature. It's not universally common across the full fediverse s/w choice, eg, it generates entirely unhelpful output here in #Friendica.
@briankrebs @briankrebs I find the "in:library" operator super useful as well to find posts I've interacted (like, share, reply) with @briankrebs also "in:library" for things you've interacted with (ex: replied, β'd) Now *thatβs* helpful. Most of my favorites are made so I wonβt lose the post, but I didnβt know I could search them Thank you! @briankrebs There are so many interesting features, sometimes I wish more of them were more clearly transparent on this platform. This is a good one, time to add to the note book. @briankrebs i wonder what would happen if if there's some user with the handle "me"? i guess other people might not be able to search their posts? idk @triallax @briankrebs iirc the format to look for users' posts is "from:@user@domain", at least that's how I use it @briankrebs Is it possible this only works on some instances and/or from certain versions onwards? @cweickhmann Yeah I don't have any experience with other instances, so I was speaking only about this server -- infosec.exchange. Several others have chimed in to say it's not the same on their server. @briankrebs @cweickhmann @briankrebs @cweickhmann @briankrebs from:me trick depends on elastic search indexing being enabled and operational on the instance you are on. mstdn.social continuously stops updating those, so for me the most recent results are from feb 16th... IMPORTANT @briankrebs do not use spacing around the colon. search options have to be treated as one word, as in: in:library the font used for the pop-out in the deckβs search form still doesnt have the kerning adjusted and it looks like thereβs a space there. there should be no space. @briankrebs I was told it couldnβt be done! IMO if Mastodon search had been more usable in 2022 the whole twitter migration thing would have gone a lot better @briankrebs to be fair to yourself it's only been a feature of Mastodon since 4.2 which came out in September. @briankrebs holy cow, that is so helpful! And `from:@catsalad alice` works just as I'd hoped π (I tried from:username before reading the linked guide in the replies). @briankrebs weirdly, `from:@catsalad @ alice@lgbtqia.space` seems to return a list of users who I follow and 1 post from Cat (with my name in the alt-text). Dunno what that's about. If I use `from:@catsalad @ alice` I get what I'd expect from the former query. *needed spaces after @ here so it didn't autocorrect the usernames. @briankrebs OH MY GOD THIS WAS A THING? That's such a useful macro what the fuck. @briankrebs In the default Masto web app (which I don't normally use) if you start typing in the search box, it pops up lots of helpful hints about useful things search can do. |
@briankrebs
I was today's years old when i learned about this π
