@Gargron I can't install the app though the play store on my phone. Benjamin 👨🏻💻🕊, that's strange, I've never seen anything like this. It doesn't say something like "not available for this device" either, right? Just "not available"? @grishka Yes, "Dieser Artikel ist nicht verfügbar." means "This item is not available." On the Google Play website, it says "This app isn't available for your device", though. I had the same thing with #SchildiChat (https://schildi.chat/) - a matrix client a while back, maybe someone from there knows what the issue was. Benjamin 👨🏻💻🕊, that's strange. I've double checked that the only requirements are a touchscreen and Android 6.0 (or newer). Google Play is sometimes sneaky with this stuff, like it thinks your app requires that the device has a camera if you declare permission to use the camera. @gargron #Google will then either ignore that it ever happened, or profess that it was "an accident". @Gargron congratulations! I added both iOS and Android clients to the #delightful #fediverse clients list. (They will appear as soon as the CI autobuild kicks in, courtesy @yarmo ) @Gargron Ideally the F-droid version should have its own ID, and the Play Store version too if Play App Signing is used (haven't checked if you're using app bundles). So something like prefixing the ID with org.f-droid, which they don't do by default (except if they detect a gradle flavor, apprently). This will solve some issues related to signature conflict, which some users can experience by using different app repositories.

@Gargron just installed and made this account to test, thanks to HN headline. Just ressurected my account with the Android app. Definitely fast and lightweight! :ablobcatattention:

@Gargron amazing thank you! It made me come back just for the ease of use. Super sleek and fast, love it! @Gargron is it georestricted or something? If I click the link it doesn't open the playstore and says no app has been found, and when I search on the store directly tiping "mastodon" gives me only third party apps @Gargron Would be very fine if a new version is released now (1.0.1 or 1.1), because people can't sign-up on servers that require approval (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon-android/commit/3928eee1dff57b9606bcad7db6e7133443cffbbb). Also some other important fixes where pushed, see https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon-android/compare/v1.0...master. I think now Google has approved it, releasing newer version will be easier. @Gargron I have found that the Mastodon app cannot be found by the play store app on the phone....you have to find it via the play website and tell it to install to your phone instead (or be logged into your Google account on a phone browser and install it from there. |
@Gargron
Congrats! Onto bolder frontiers. I'll check it out.
