Gregory's ServerA few small patches of bioluminescent ghost fungus (Omphalotus nidiformis) out at Corunna, NSW after recent east coast low rains. Took a couple of photos just before midnight under pale moonlight.

  @jan_mayen @schreddergeld they are a fairly faint glow - photos always make them look more spectacular than they are to the naked eye. I think these were about 20 seconds at iso 6400 - but at f8 (was on a tripod). Not bright enough to photo by hand unless you have either an amazing lens or a very steady hand ;) @GRC yeah they are pretty interesting - see a few most years here unless in a massive dry spell. @silverdory That's mad. I can imagine walking along coming across those and thinking I was in a movie ๐คฃ Nature is amazing! @khusky Yeah they are pretty special. Their glow is actually fairly faint - they look a bit more dramatic in photos with long exposures (like these!) It needs to be pretty dark and your eyes need to be adjusted to the dark to see them clearly at night. But once you find them - particularly larger groups - it is an amazing natural glow. Key to photographing them is look for them in the day then return at night - that way you're not stumbling around the Aussie bush in complete darkness so much ;) |
