I think programming is like running a dishwasher. It always takes longer than you think and some stuff is never as clean as you expected it to be.

@rooster

Any programming beyond a recreational level should be banned by law and common decency.

@rooster also things aren’t always aligned properly 🌚

@caroline @rooster

If you want things aligned that's what assembler is for. Compilers were an error.

@angelastella I’m giving away the inside joke but this is also referring to @rooster’s actual dishwasher haha

@rooster we need to make sex like programming, and not in the “one mistake and you end up supporting it for the rest of your life” kind of way

John Garrison

@rooster and I don't know how it works but I do it anyway

@rooster Just like scrubbing the grime off a stained dish, it's an endless battle against entropy, where pristine clarity remains an elusive dream, forever tarnished by the fingerprints of chaos.

@rooster

The difference is that I don't usually put spaghetti into dishwasher.

@rooster and after closing the thing you always find stuff that should have been added to it.

@rooster As someone who is world champion-level at dishwasher loading, I can't relate to this analogy.

It always comes out clean for me.

@rooster And also if people would just RINSE before putting anything in—[eternal back-and-forth arguing ensues over minute process details]

@rooster Some stuff gets baked on and never comes off. Some dishes need to be washed by hand again later. Also don’t put your sharp knives in there!

Iva Horn

@rooster Comparing it to a dishwasher works surprisingly well. 🤔

@rooster The result is also better when you think about what you're doing beforehand, rather than tossing everything in any old how.

@rooster And how someone else 'stacks' it just isn't right :D

@rooster That sounds like any DIY job. Any work done unprofessionally or without good planning looks the same.
