MASTODON TIP OF THE DAY: This seems to be as good a time as any to remind you that you can use "in:library" with search terms in your Mastodon search (at least, with the advanced web interface), to search for text in the Mastodon posts you have made in the past. Please see the attached image for an example:

@ryanschultz @nullagent clarification: the `in:library` rune also includes posts you've interacted with that weren't posted by you.

I often use `from:me` when I specifically want posts that *I* made.

SnoopJ

@psy I've made a few half-hearted attempts to pull up documentation about this, but never really found anything satisfactory. The closest I got was discussion of this kind of thing in GitHub issues, some of which included mention of a need for better documentation.

@SnoopJ I can confirm. For one of my seminars I was trying to collect search techniques for Mastodon and beyond but didn't end up with anything satisfying. I was considering letting my students create something. Maybe next time. @psy @ryanschultz @nullagent

@ryanschultz

Only if the instance uses Elastic Search, or even if it doesn't ?

@ryanschultz How about "in:my posts" or something more user friendly than the jargon word "Library"?

Eugen Rochko

@cdevroe @edwiebe @ryanschultz Yes, from:me does what the original post is about, in:library is a bit more than that.

Colin Devroe

@Gargron oh, interesting. Might be nice to add more detail about all search operators here: docs.joinmastodon.org/user/net

(Unless there is a document already and I cannot find it.)

@Gargron @edwiebe @ryanschultz

It has more common and general everyday meanings outside of the context of Mastodon?

Timeline, post history, seem more straight forward. No one refers to their wallet, their notebook, their in Box their out box, their posts their diary, etc… as ‘My Library’

@Gargron @edwiebe @ryanschultz

As a Mastodon thing? No interest in Mastodon as an RSS reader / podcast player either.

I have a library of books, and DVD, and other media as well. And the public library is a couple of miles away.

I have no need or ambition for Mastodon becoming any of those.

Ed Wiebe

@Gargron @ryanschultz I had no idea it refers to my posts. I didn't know I had a library.

Collectifission

@ryanschultz from:ryanschultz would do the same. What does this add?

@ryanschultz

THANK YOU! I've been on Mastodon for a long time now, and never knew that trick. To think of all the time I've wasted looking through my old feed and googling my own toots, when I could easily have been using this method!

Delia Christina

@AnneTheWriter1 @ryanschultz

SAME. I've pulled out lustrous curls trying to find my brilliant toots from the past. Dangit.

@ryanschultz what about searching for posts from other specific people?

Deus

@ryanschultz I simply go to my profile, click the three dots, and use this.

der.hans

@ryanschultz so needed this last week!

Thanks for the reminder, tested it, will use it when I get back to that research project :)
