What happens when every time your browser sends data to a tracker it makes a beep sound? Well, @bert_hubert did just that. And it sounds like you are listening to an old school modem. Creepy stuff! https://berthub.eu/articles/posts/tracker-beeper/

@moftasa @apollon Firefox does much of the same shit, though more of it can be disabled. For starters, modern browsers have essentially turned the URL bar into a keylogger that reports to Google by default. Also, once you press enter to actually navigate to the URL that you're entered into the keylogging URL bar, by default, Google is asked if it considers that URL to be malicious or not. @srslypascal @moftasa @apollon You can also switch that off in the Privacy & Security settings if you don't want to mess with about:config @srslypascal I wouldn’t recommend disabling Google Safe Browsing to just about everyone. Telemetry and search suggestions can be disabled safely, however, Google Safe Browsing is important for flagging malware domains/downloads. @moftasa, I’d say proceed with caution in that regard. @srslypascal @moftasa You’re not wrong. Unfortunately, Mozilla loves to claim they’re privacy-this, privacy-that, yet do too much of the shit Google is notorious for. I only said “Google” because the video shows Chrome 😅 @srslypascal @moftasa @apollon Pale Moon is a modern browser that had telemetry yanked off straight from its core. @srslypascal @moftasa @apollon Right, but I'm sorry, but this is misleading at best. @srslypascal @apollon @moftasa I feel that the Librewolf fork actually lives up to what Firefox presents itself as. @srslypascal @moftasa @apollon If you're the kind of person who cares about that, you're also the kind of person who would turn it off. @jwildeboer @remixman @bert_hubert Why are web pages slow? Every time you blink your eyes, 1,000 trackers have to phone home. @jwildeboer @bert_hubert @jwildeboer @bert_hubert I wonder what would happen if he didn't accept tracking on the pop up. Suspecting, not much would change @jwildeboer @bert_hubert I know why there is a pi-hole running in my network. Although I wish this wouldn’t be necessary. @jwildeboer @bert_hubert Sounds a bit like you're loading the web page off a 5¼" floppy drive @jwildeboer @bert_hubert 2 weeks ago i started using a dashcam app on my smartphone. It called out so frequently whilst being blocked by duckduckgo's app tracking protection that my smartphone drained battery and shut down overheated. Lesson learned: app tracking protectiin works @jwildeboer @bert_hubert like the internet is not getting annoying enough anymore with the dam cameras kids think will make them rich, good looking and happy…yes I bought into it at first also back in 1994.. @Jan Wildeboer 😷:krulorange: @bert hubert 🇺🇦🇪🇺 can I have this tracker-beepr as a "Geigerzähler" as a radiationmeter pls? It would be much more fun.
@jwildeboer @bert_hubert If you change the tone played to a "cah-ching" you can get an idea of how value is being generated from your mere browsing. @jwildeboer @bert_hubert Running the same site in Librewolf will silence that beep, I'm sure. @jwildeboer @bert_hubert @jwildeboer @bert_hubert Per has written a blogpost about this very thing https://axbom.me/objects/87db3bcb-8ff4-4748-a44f-609eeab21574 |
@jwildeboer @bert_hubert now run it with ublock origin installed and enabled!
