The NFT crowd had a similar grift. Don't worry about the fact that the art on NFTs is shit. Buy in and hope someone else does the work to make it usable. In the future it'll be huge, so support it now.
Same with the metaverse crowd. Ignore the fact that the MMOs look and work like shit. We'll fix it in the future, so buy it now.
Unlike those, AI can occasionally be useful for not producing shit. But any attempt to legitimize those uses must content with glossing over how much shit AI produces.
Extreme skepticism of AI products and the shills who hype them should be warranted at all times, because these people exist in a shit-polishing echo chamber. They may not even know how shit the thing they're talking about is. In many cases, they haven't even used whatever they're hyping up.
Their hype is not about what the thing is today. It's about this vague idea in their head about a future product that does everything they could ever want and is also not shit.
