not sure im at peace with Roboto #nyc subway bullet symbols. the Q and G are really messing with my head.

an android app showing a grid of the circle logos for each subway line. they’re all faithful to the official ones, but the font is set in Roboto rather than Helvetica.

@jsit it's a perfectly nice app and otherwise fairly well designed but man I really can't get past the Roboto thing. play.google.com/store/apps/det

One thing I forgot I wanted to ask about the NYC subway, why are some lines routes designated by numbers while most are letters?

Edit: huh, Mastodon doesn't support strikethrough

@grishka the subway system was initially started by two competing companies, Interborough Rapid Transit (IRT) and the Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit (BMT). The IRT used numbers and the BMT used letters.

When the city took over and merged the companies in the 40s, they had to keep some separation between the two systems since they were set up differently and couldn't interoperate super easily (track width, car and platform size, tunnel diameter)
