@tbsp i assumed it was impractical too, it's why I've put off making it for so long.
I crushed the cooked rice with a potato masher, then used a bowl and a pestle to get it to the very sticky state. It takes a lot of muscle and time :>... and makes a giant mess (mochi rice is like glue).
