The iPod touch was the first Apple product I bought with my own money in 2010. While there are many things I could say, I’ll just mention how cool these Flash-based web ads were for it.

(I’ll also mention that this was for my ninth birthday and I did not have a bank card, so the specialist had to count a bunch of loose change and singles up to $200 or whatever it was)

@samhenrigold I remember these times fondly. It was my first Apple product too.

@samhenrigold I still have mine somewhere in a drawer, last time I took it out of the box I wondered how I could have used something with a screen so small...

@samhenrigold Honestly, counting change and stuff when someone saved up was the best. Helping some kid achieve something they’ve wanted for a long time? Way more fun than selling another base model MD101LL/A to some rich housewife for their college-bound kid.

@SamTheGeek so what you’re saying is that the housewife should pay for the MBP in singles?

@samhenrigold I remember this for sure. Already got the 2nd gen iPod Touch a year prior, though, syncing apps and updates from the Macbook. I was a university student at the time and used it for music on the go and the apps. I couldn’t afford an iPhone carrier contract and did not want to switch carrier. The iPod was the ticket out I needed.

I can’t remember when carrier-unlocked iPhones started going on sale, but unless national law forbade it, Apple prev. made it carrier-locked.
