Gregory's ServerI planted out some tomatoes today. Too early in the season so I'm risking frosts over the next month or two, but I've plenty of backup plants and it's nice to pretend that winter is over already. Today was the first day I've needed to open the greenhouse window, it hit 34 °C.

I wish I saved more seeds from last year. I did save some beefsteak tomato seeds though; they've had a substantially better germination rate than anything I've bought from the shop, so that's a pretty clear indication that saving seeds is not only cheaper but also more practical.

Also happy to see that last year's food waste has become this year's compost. Not the best compost, granted, but it's good enough to bury and give the beds a decent nutrient boost. |
I've learned my lesson with the absurd volume of rain we got last summer so I'm growing more things in containers this year, particularly fruit. Aside from anything else, I figure that going vertical is a more effective use of the limited space I have.
