Two things can be true at once:

1) #TikTok is a hot steaming pile of anti-#freedom anti-#privacy garbage that should not be used by anyone ever
2) Censoring TikTok from your nation is #Internet #censorship and therefore bad

You can't claim the moral high ground over an oppressive regime if you literally engage in Internet censorship yourself.

Promote #FreeSoftware, not censorship.

@Wuzzy TikTok is one of the only social media apps out there that doesn't directly promote fascism. I can't even join X or Facebook or Instagram and it will be just fucking fascists. I don't wanna see that.

@Wuzzy banning TikTok is wrong not because TikTok is good, but because the US should introduce comprehensive data protection and privacy laws instead of fighting the symptoms.

TikTok is a symptom, lack of data privacy regulation is the cause.

@Wuzzy I don't agree with this as an absolute. There *may* be times when censoring something / blocking something is not terrible.

In the case of TikTok, specifically, though -- We should be setting strict rules on what companies can do with user data, etc. Rules that apply equally to U.S.-based companies and non-U.S. companies -- and if a company like TikTok doesn't comply after that, then blocking it is a reasonable step.

But skipping the step of creating reasonable rules is bad.
