@mdione You can do virtually any form of 2FA from a desktop or laptop.

Google Authenticator -> desktop TOTP apps.

@lrvick I don't follow. My banks only do 2FA through their apps. Besides, the whole thread is aboutn9t having an Android or iPhone; in my case I don't even have a Google account, I don't see how I could use GAuth.

@mdione I don't have a Google account either.

When someone says they only support Google Authentication, what they really mean is they only support a protocol called TOTP.

It is like if they told you you can contact via gmail, when any email provider is fine.

Any TOTP app will scan that Google Authenticator QR code, including Linux Destkop applications.

Personally I use Yubico Authenticator which is a command line and desktop client that accesses 2FA codes from my yubikey just like a phone.

@lrvick 2FA != TOTP. In my case I have to open the app, put in my PIN, thev validate the operation on a screen. I also do use TOTP with a free app for GitH7b and other services.
